Ron Resch under Model of Epsilon IX

Directed by Robert Wise, ‘Star Trek: The Motion Picture’ is the first film in the Star Trek series. Along with other structures in the film, (notably the mouth of V'Ger which swallows the Starship Enterprise, and an internal orifice which Spock jetpacks through with his thruster unit), Resch designed the Spaceframe structure of Epsilon IX. Contracted by Paramount Pictures Resch was invited into the special effects design team by famed Special Effects Director Doug Trumbull. Resch did his design work in the Van Nuys, CA studios of Apogee Inc. headed by John Dykstra who was special photographic effects supervisor of Star Wars (1977). Grant McCune headed their model shop that built the physical model. Film Credit reads: Geometric Designs Ron Resch Boston University http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/series/MOV/001/credits.html
